Starlab

Airbus Defence and Space is partnering with LAT for the planned Starlab commercial space station to further develop the training infrastructure for crew and ground personnel. Starlab Space LLC is a US-led global joint venture between Voyager Space, Airbus, Mitsubishi Corporation and MDA Space. The goal of the joint venture is to launch a new Low Earth Orbit (LEO) space station before the International Space Station (ISS) is decommissioned. Starlab will serve a global customer base of space agencies, research organisations and companies, ensuring the continued presence of humans in low Earth orbit. At the same time, it will ensure that science and research move seamlessly from the ISS into the new era of commercial space stations. 

 

LAT has been involved in the training of ESA astronauts for the ISS since 2000 and leads the European training consortium. Based on many years of experience in space training, LAT and Airbus will develop a comprehensive training concept and establish a sustainable European training infrastructure. This is intended to meet the long-term needs of international space agencies, research institutions and companies. In addition to agency astronauts, astronauts from Starlab and other companies, for example, will also be trained to meet the increased demand.

The first step will be to develop an effective, state-of-the-art training concept for crew and ground personnel.
